Once established they are tolerant to heat and drought. Butterflies flock to the blooms while the songbirds relish the seed. Deadheading the spent blooms can extend the blooming time. However be sure to leave some spent blooms on it to provide seed for songbirds like finches to eat during the winter. The roots of the plant have famous medicinal qualities and the flowers make for a great long lasting cut flower.
