| Visiting RareFind Nursery We Love To Show Off Our Bloomers! The 11-acre nursery and home of Hank Schannen is located at the northwestern tip of the famous New Jersey Pine Barrens. The nursery is centered around a four-acre rhododendron display garden in a natural wooded setting. The garden is home to a large and diverse collection of shrubs on the East Coast and contains many thousands of rhododendron seedlings from our own hybridizing efforts. Come see what the future holds. Peak rhododendron bloom season lasts from May 1 to June 1, but some plants will be in bloom from about April 1 into August. We have picnic tables in the garden, so pack a lunch and make a day of it. We are available for group visits and can accommodate busses. On other days, call ahead so we can provide the attention you deserve. We Are Open To The Public Four Days A Week: From March 15 through November 31, we are open to the public Wednesdays through Saturdays from 10 am to 4 pm. Depending upon personal schedules, we are also available by appointment on our "closed days" of Mondays, Tuesdays and Sundays, and in the months of December, January and February. We will accommodate you whenever we can. A Few Suggestions If You Come If you're coming to visit and know which plants you want to order, we suggest you e-mail or fax your plants ahead of time so we can pull your order and set them aside. You're under no obligation to take them if you change your mind. This system allows you extra time to tour the garden and peruse through the additional varieties we propagate which are not in the catalog. This would be especially true for those who are on bus trips and garden club outings. It takes the pressure off of both you and us in assembling your order and provides time for you to discover the hidden gems in our garden. Last year we had customers who visited from Illinois, Ohio, New England, and the Southeast. Some came with U-Hauls, their own trucks or van rentals; others came in their everyday cars and SUV's. After they saw the diversity of rare plant material, many wished they had come with something bigger. If you plan on purchasing quantities of larger material, consider renting a larger vehicle, especially now that we have 7 and 15 gallon plants in larger quantities.
