ARONIA melanocarpa 'Morton'
|
Description: Dwarf habit to 2-3 feet tall, and good flower, fruit, and fall color features make this aronia distinctive. In May it produces an abundant supply of pure white flowers. Purplish black fruits appear in showy, long-lasting clusters in Fall. However, as the name “chokeberry” indicates, they are quite astringent. Usually even birds find them unappealing, leaving them to survive on the stems, often into early winter. The finely toothed, oval leaves are a lustrous dark green in Summer, changing to a good wine red in Fall.
