MAGNOLIA virginiana var australis Sweet Thing™ PP17,814 'Perry Paige'
|
Hybridized/Introduced By: George Dodson and Fernando Campbell Boyd III
Description: A dwarf evergreen Sweetbay Magnolia. The original Sweet Thing™ plant was discovered in a block of seedlings that were planted in 1990. It was obvious when the plant was just about 3 years old that it was very special. The original selected seedling at 14 years(in ~2004) was approximately 8 ft tall. The diameter was approximately 6-1/2 ft. As you can see from the photograph the plant is very dense and full. The foliage is evergreen even after experiencing temperatures below 0 degrees Fahrenheit. The plant showed no damage and retained its foliage with good color.
