Description: With its striking crimson-scarlet or bright red flowers rivaling Cardinal Flower for intensity, Royal Catchfly is a favorite of both gardeners and hummingbirds. Currently on the endangered or threatened species list in several states, but is easily propagated from seed and multiplies in the wildflower garden. An elegant flower occurring naturally in open woods, glades, meadows, and prairies from Georgia to Louisiana and Oklahoma, north to Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Missouri. Prefers a sandy or gravelly soil. Excellent drainage is essential for growing this plant. The tips of the petals are usually not notched.
