MONARDA didyma 'Peter's Fancy Fuschia'
|
Description: West Virginia plant guru Peter Heus found this striking Bee Balm in an order of Monarda fistulosa he received back in '84. Obviously the bees were at work, as another species was involved here. As the name implies, flowers are a really bright fuchsia color and attract hordes of pipe vine swallowtails and other butterflies, clear wing moths and hummingbirds. Leaves are distinctly downy, making this plant more resistant to mildew than either M. fistulosa or M. didyma. Do not confuse this with Mondarda 'Peter's Purple', which is a completely different plant from Texas.
