ILLICIUM parviflorum 'Forest Green'
|
Description: This fine illicium is an introduction of Michael Dirr, and deserves more attention. 'Forest Green' is considered an improvement over typical I. parviflorum due to its darker green foliage, even in full sun, and more compact habit. This plant really performs under stressful growing conditions. Research from the Ph.D. program of Jason Griffin at NCSU has shown that this species, and in particular this cultivar, is the most sun tolerant of all the Illiciums tested, though they are ideal for shade. Great for hedges. Moist to normal soils preferred.
