METASEQUOIA glyptostroboides 'Bonsai'
|
Description: A very new and rare dwarf Dawn Redwood with local origins. John Kuser, Professor Emeritus of Cook College, Rutgers University, acquired wild collected seed from China in the 80’s. Before that, all the Metasequoia in the US were descended from just three plants and were seriously inbred, failing to produce seed. The new trees were distributed to several arboretums, and provided much needed diversity. Several selections, including this unique, twisted, irregular dwarf form, were named.
