RHODODENDRON 'Carolina Rose'
|
Hybridized/Introduced By: Knippenberg/Hardgrove Parentage: (minus var. minus Carolinianum Group x prinophyllum)
Description: Covers itself with small bright pink blooms. This is one of the latest of the small leaved rhododendrons to bloom. It waits until late May to produce its lavish display of flowers. Has good sun tolerance. Open, upright habit, foliage has a slight twist with reddish stems. Reputed to be a hybrid between a small leaved rhododendron and a deciduous azalea, but there is no evidence of that azalea in its appearance. Augie Kehr once mentioned that he thought it had R. chapmanii in its parentage. It is a great grower, no matter who your mama is!!!
