RHODODENDRON 'Dorothy Swift'
|
Hybridized/Introduced By: Mehlquist Parentage: (smirnowii x yakushimanum)
Description: Flowers are held in ball trusses of 12-17, broadly funnel-shaped, with 5 wavy-edged lobes. Flower color is pink in bud, opening to a moderate, light and pale pink fading to white; slightly scented. Leaves dark green and hairless above, with a thick, felted indumentum below (cream at first, aging to brown). Dr. Mehlquist made the cross in 1964; and later named it after one of the stalwarts of the Mass. Rhododendron Chapter. Unique for it’s being a more erect grower than others of similar breeding. Our 20 year old plant is about 7 feet tall.
