BAPTISIA 'Purple Smoke'
|
Parentage: B. albescens X B. minor var. aberrans

B. albescens contributed the dark stems and gray-green foliage, and B. minor the blue color and smaller leaves. Mature plants in three to four years can bear over 50 blooming stalks in May-June here in Zone
6. Rob Gardner, former curator of the Botanical Gardens in Chapel Hill, NC, found and introduced the plant with Niche Gardens in 1996. Plant in lean, well-drained soil in full sun.
