Hybridized/Introduced By: Kehr breeder/Philippe de Spoelberch raiser/introducer Parentage: ('Woodsman' x 'Lennei) X 'Elizabeth'
Description: This cultivar's green pointed, elongated buds look like bananas, and open to show nine tepals, up to 6 inches long x 2 inches wide. Large outer tepals are yellow-cream with a green base and five to seven purple stripes. The inner tepals are white with a green base and larger purplish flash from base to middle of the tepal. The tree of 'Banana Split' is vigorous and upright, reaching 12 feet high in seven years. It is a late-blooming cultivar, blooming a few days after 'Limelight'. The original first flowered at seven years of age. Registered August 11, 1999, by Philippe de Spoelberch of Belgium.
