ILEX sugerokii
|
Description: A dense, broad-leaf evergreen holly native to the mountains of north and central Japan and Taiwan. Female plants of this medium-sized, upright shrub produces two solitary red berries that arise from each leaf axil and are suspended on red stalks. It has beautiful smooth dark green, oval to ovate-shaped leaves that are nearly one inch long. The stems of new growth are a deep red wine color. Sugeroku holly is nearly impossibly to find at nurseries. Sun to partial shade.
