LEUCOTHOE keiskei 'Royal Ruby'
|
Description: This new variety has rich burgundy-red new growth. Although it is very attractive and healthy, we have to wonder if the ID is correct, because we grow Leucothoe keiskei and this doesn't look much like it. It DOES looks more like a selection of L. fontanesiana, as the plant is larger and more upright; leaves are larger and more leathery. Our plants match pictures of 'Royal Ruby' found around the web, so our plants are labeled correctly. If you aren’t familiar with Leucothoe fontanesiana, it is a wonderful shade-tolerant evergreen shrubs native to the Eastern US. It is also one of the most deer-resistant shrubs we know.
