Description: Nodding, maroon 2 to 3 inch wonderfully fragrant flowers hang below the branches of these plants that grow to a mature height of 5-6 feet. Foliage is finely dissected. Propagates itself by underground stems to form a dense, spreading clump. Native to south-central China, where it is becoming increasingly rare due to the collection of its roots for medicinal use. This species is rare in cultivation as well.
