DAPHNE odora 'Alba'
|
Description: This species and its cultivars have some of the most sweetly scented of flowering shrubs. Plant grows as a dense, broad mound of glossy evergreen foliage. Try it on the edge of a woodland or amongst deciduous shrubs where it will flower before most other plants come into leaf. Daphnes hate to be too wet in winter being too hot and dry in summer. A thick mulch over their roots in spring will help keep the soil moist and cool, a secret to their success. Light shade winter is beneficial; as with many evergreens, the north side of a building is ideal. Moist, well-drained soil with neutral pH works best, although D. odora is not as fussy to grow as some daphne, and also seems to transplant easier. Sun to light shade. 3-5 x 4-6 feet. Zones 7-9.
