Description: Commonly known as "summer lilac," vitex provides color in July and August, doldrum days in the garden. Often treated as a cut-back shrub, it blooms on new wood in fragrant powder blue panicles resembling lilacs. Leaves are 5-lobed, grayish-green, and resemble hemp (marijuana) leaves. It was introduced by Don Shadow who found it on the Mississippi Delta. Plant in full sun and dry to medium soil and plan on a summer show, complete with hummingbirds and butterflies.
