VITEX agnus-castus 'Shoal Creek'
|
Description: Through mid-late Summer, 'Shoal Creek' produces fragrant lilac-colored flowers in loose panicles (to 12 inches long) that are quite attractive to butterflies and bees. In warm winter climates it forms a vase-shaped, deciduous shrub 10-15 feet tall or is sometimes trained as a single trunk tree. In cold winter areas in USDA Zones 5 and 6, it is more often cut back each year and grown as a 4-7 feet tall woody perennial shrub. 'Shoal Creek' features aromatic, compound, palmate, grayish-green leaves with 5-7 lance-shaped leaflets (each leaflet to 6 inches long). Its common name comes from its use as an anti-aphrodisiac in herbal medicine.
