Hybridized/Introduced By: John Wister/ Scott Arboretum Parentage: (Parentage unknown)
Description: This is a great plant with a fun story. John Wister often gave away seedling rhodo- dendron "rejects" to his friends, especially plants whose tags he'd lost. While visiting for dinner with his friends, the Gillespies, one day, he commented on the very attractive and unusual rhododendron in their garden. He was surprised to learn it was one of his own castoffs. John later registered it for Maralyn as a birthday present. We have two large plants of this in our display garden and wouldn't be without it. Seven-lobed flowers of near white with a soft lilac-pink blush have bold and showy reddish purple throats. Flowers appear earlier than most elepidotes.
