SPOROBOLUS heterolepis
|
Description: Once a major component of the Midwestern prairie, this plant has only lately been rediscovered by American gardeners. A native warm season grass, it grows in a 2-3 feet tall clump, with delicate open panicles that are surprisingly fragrant. Fall is the true season of interest for prairie dropseed, with orange-red fall color softening to creamy beige in the winter. A good plant for edging or the perennial garden, it thrives in sunny, dry locations
