WISTERIA frutescens 'Longwood Purple'
|
Description: This wisteria, obtained by Longwood Gardens founder Pierre S. duPont, grew near the entrance to Longwood’s Conservatory for many years. DuPont planted many wisteria and it is speculated that this was his favorite, as it is one of the few remaining in the Gardens today. The 5 inch long pendulous flowers are a deep purple color and bloom from summer to early fall. Flowers are much darker purple than is typical for the species.
