GARDENIA jasminoides 'Chuck Hayes' PP8,755
|
Description: Tops in cold hardiness, but that's not all! It produces more flowers, is more heat-tolerant (which helps it bloom even better) and has nicer leaves on a bushier, more compact plant that will grow in full sun. Powerfully fragarant double white flowers appear in June and continue until very hot weather in July. Then, they start again when the weather cools at the end of August and go till frost. 'Chuck Hayes' is able to withstand cold five to six degrees lower than its fellow hardy gargenia, 'Kleim's Hardy', which is good to about 0 F and has only single flowers. For those of you "zone pushers" willing to experiment in colder areas, plant this evergreen shrub in a location sheltered from winter wind and sun, and perhaps wrap it the first winter. Sorry but we cannot guarantee this item.
