SYRINGA x chinensis 'Lilac Sunday'
|
Hybridized/Introduced By: Alexander
Description: 'Lilac Sunday' was selected for its abundant display of cascading blossoms every year. Heavily perfumed, single light purple flower panicles are produced not only at the branch tips, like the common lilac, but also from the lateral buds along the stems, at a distance of two or more feet from the branch tips. They arch under the weight of the flowers. This disease-resistant, small- leaved lilac was named in honor of the Arnold Arboretum's famous annual celebration of lilacs. It suckers less and blooms later than the common lilac, thus extending the season of display.
