RHODODENDRON dauricum 'Daurie Four'
|
Hybridized/Introduced By: H. Schannen Parentage: (selected form of dauricum, a clonal propagation)
Description: Hank Schannen grew seed from a Berg plant of R. dauricum in the early '70s, and this selection turned out to be the best of about 50 seedlings. This is one of the first lepidotes to bloom in the Spring, and is very tough and cold-hardy. The violet-purple flowers are open faced and usually held in pairs. The plant grows tall and open in the shade but more compact in a sunnier location. We used to sell this with the nickname "Daurie #4". Now it's official!
