RHODODENDRON maximum 'Curly Leaf Seedlings'
|
Parentage: (species)
Description: We are probably the only source for this rare, and highly ornamental variant of our native rosebay. What a difference from the norm! The leaves have a pronounced and consistent twist which is distinctive from other rhododendrons. This form also has several other enhanced ornamental qualities over normal maximum. The growth is markedly more compact, the leaves are smaller and darker green, the flower buds are round, unlike the normal conical buds, and new growth emerges later so as to not grow through the flowers. Our seedlings are from the selections: var. Hessei, from Rutgers, 'Leachii' and Dave Lewis' 'Whirlygig.' They come relatively true from seed; we have rogued out the normal leaved plants.
