Hybridized/Introduced By: Blough Parentage: ('Janet Blair' x 'Ice Cube') or (JB x IC)
Description: For many years, the late Robert Blough tried to grow rhododendron hybrids that were hardy in the cold hinterlands of western PA. Crossing the survivors, he sought to find better ones by planting acres of seedlings in an open field. 'Amber Mist' is one of his best. The flowers are similar to 'Janet Blair', but larger and deeper in color, with a very large yellow flare which ages to bronze. It has such good flower substance that it can withstand a downpour without damage. Leaves are very dark olive green, matte finished, each with a slight twist or “wave” to it. Very cold hardy, with compact habit, it grows wider than tall. The original plant is about 8 x 15 feet
