MAGNOLIA kobus var. stellata 'Two Stones'
|
Hybridized/Introduced By: Kehr
Description: This tetraploid was produced by Augie Kehr and is like a kobus but with all parts larger. Fast growing and will produce a perfectly shaped tree. The strange name came about accidentally. When Dr. Kehr first noticed this tree in his field, he wanted to mark it for future evaluation. At the time, he didn't have anything with him to mark the tree, so he picked up two stones from the field and put them beside the tree. Not much of a name to be sure, but an interesting story of how names can come about!
