RHODODENDRON 'Dawn's Early Light'
|
Hybridized/Introduced By: unknown Parentage: (keiskei X xanthocodon)
Description: It is hard to believe the authenticity of this cross by looking at the plant. Both parents are yellow, and the resemblance to keiskei is completely obvious, but there is little other evidence of the xanthocodon parent. It’s a compact and full plant, with large blooms of barium yellow with a touch of green, that are much earlier and larger than any of our other keiskei. Wonderful when combined with the blue, lavender and purple lepidotes of late April. We can vouch for its cold hardiness, as Ron grew one in cold central MA where it thrived and bloomed. Whether it is a true hybrid or not is anyone's guess, but who cares? It is truly a great plant.
