RHODODENDRON 'Bluenose'
|
Hybridized/Introduced By: Brueckner Parentage: (dauricum var. sempervirens (wild collected seed Lake Baikal) X ‘Russautinii’)
Description: An upright growing, vigorous small-leafed variety from Nova Scotia that grows to about the same size as PJM. It has lavender-blue flowers, which are about the truest blue found on a rhododendron grown in the northeast. Considered a much-improved 'Russautinii'. A curious feature is that the bright yellow new growth later turns to a healthy dark green, providing an additional four weeks of color interest past blooming. It is named after the famous 1920-30s Nova Scotia racing schooner pictured on the Canadian dime. Plant it so the bark is protected from the winter morning sun to avoid bark split.
