RHODODENDRON 'David Gable'
|
Hybridized/Introduced By: Gable Parentage: ('Atrosanguineum' X fortunei)
Description: Blooming in mid May, the flowers are pink with a strong deep red blotch in a fully packed truss. This plant helped make Joe Gable's reputation as the "Godfather" of eastern rhododendrons. Leaves are a glossy , deep green, and the plant is well clothed in foliage. This is the first plant Hank Schannen bought when he joined the American Rhododendron Societyin 1966. Thirty years later, that plant is still vigorously growing after being moved in 1977. Now it is 10 x 7 feet and spectacularly covers itself with a 1,000 flowers every spring. Thank you, Joe, for the legacy.
