VIBURNUM nudum 'Winterthur'
|
Description: This one put Viburnum nudum on the map! It's now one of our most appreciated native shurbs, both for the spectacular fall fruit display, and for the shiny dark green leaves which appear to have been coated with a high gloss finish. The foliage turns a lovely wine-red in Fall, setting off the clusters of fruit that progress from white to hot pink to brilliant sky blue. Not all the fruit matures at the same rate, so all colors are present together. And let's not forget the creamy white flowers in May. Not fussy about soil — wet or dry sites are fine and some shade is tolerable. Needs a companion of another V. nudum variety to improve fruiting. This isn't a male-female thing; you'll get a much better fruit display with two different clones of the same species.
