RHODODENDRON minus var. chapmanii
|
Hybridized/Introduced By: Ed Connors' seedling Parentage: (minus var. chapmanii)
Description: An endangered species native to the Florida panhandle, it is heat tolerant, but also surprisingly cold hardy in the north. Ed's plant grows low and compact with rugose twisted dark green leaves and looks good throughout the year. R. chapmanii has flowers similar to minus, but in shades of true pink. Good selections of chapmanii are very worthy garden plants, and this one is among the best. In harsh winters the leaves may burn somewhat, but the plant is unharmed and aggressively springs back.
