RHODODENDRON 'Kern's Violetta'
|
Hybridized/Introduced By: Kerns Parentage: (unknown cross)
Description: 'Violetta' is a stately head-turner, named by old time Philadelphia grower, Walter Kerns. Until this year, we carried it as 'Violetta', but under the nomenclature rules of the RHS, it must be changed — so 'Kern's Violetta' it is! Possibly an open pollinated seedling of 'A. Bedford', but the flower is larger and is a light lavender with a strong deep purple blotch. As it tends to be an open grower when young, pinch the new growth, and you will be rewarded by a bushier, vase- shaped plant. Place it in the background, give it room and some light shade, and 'Violetta' will develop into a stunning plant. When you visit us at bloom time, look for it at the main entrance to the display garden.
