Hybridized/Introduced By: G. Mehlquist Parentage: ('Vulcan' x 'Chocolate Soldier') Description: If there was a pantheon for rhododendron gods, Dr. Gustave Mehlquist would be in it. Gus has now passed on, but left a rich legacy of tough plants which originated in Storrs, Connecticut, which occasionally reaches –25°F an often –15° to –20°F. 'Scarlet Romance' is late May blooming plant in our garden, with screaming red flowers held in tightly rounded trusses. The plant will be 4 ft. by 4 ft. in 10 years, with medium green foliage. | ||||
