RHODODENDRON 'Pride's Early Red'
|
Hybridized/Introduced By: Pride Parentage: (probably 'Mars' X 'America'?)
Description: Most hardy reds tend to grow tall and gangly, but our 20 year old plant of 'Pride's Early Red' is unusually compact. A little known Lanny Pride plant from the "ice box" of western Pennsylvania, its compactness and redder flowers on a tough Zone 5 plant are its differentiating qualities. It blooms about May 15 for us, which is earlier than other red ironclads. Dark forest green leaves set off the red flowers.
