RHODODENDRON hyperythrum
|
Description: From Taiwan, this species is surprisingly cold hardy and has also recently been used in breeding to impart heat-tolerance. Its hybrids also have the same low, dense, mounded plant habit
(about twice as wide as tall), as yakushimanum hybrids. It has a distinctive narrow leaf recurved on the sides, and a relatively long petiole which it also passes on to its offspring. The flowers are typically pink or white from pink buds with reddish speckles on the upper lobe. We are propagating several hyperythrum clonal forms, including some of our own seedlings.
