R. (AZALEA) DECIDUOUS 'Western Lights'
|
Hybridized/Introduced By: Briggs Nursery Parentage: (R. canadense X R. X kosteranum)
Description: 'Western Lights' is a polyploid of the azalea 'Orchid Lights,' which was introduced in 1986. 'Orchid Lights' is a hybrid of R. canadense and R. X kosteranum. The 1.5-inch orchid-colored flowers are sterile, so seed capsules are not produced. This cultivar boasts thicker, lusher foliage with a slightly glaucous (blue-green) coloring. Larger flowers steal the show. The entire plant is showier from bud to foliage. One of the earliest deciduous azaleas to bloom here.
