R. (AZALEA) DECIDUOUS prunifolium
|
Description: This native of southwestern Georgia and adjacent Alabama blooms when not many other shrubs are doing much. Although the flowers aren't fragrant, the colors are stunning- ranging from pinkish-orange to bright red. The species R. prunifolium was introduced into cultivation by the Arnold Arboretum in 1918. In its native habitat, it grows along shady ravines and stream banks to about 15' tall and seems to do best in light shade.
