FORSYTHIA mandshurica 'Vermont Sun'
|
Description: We get easily bored with most run-of-the-mill forsythias, but a few are distinctive. This is one of them. Its unusual leaves are almost round, about 3 inches in diameter on a plant with stiff, upright branches that reach to 6-8 feet. Arguably one of the hardiest forsythia, -25 to –30? F, its sulfur yellow flowers emerge from blackish buds are among the first of all forsythia to open; a week earlier than F. ovata, the Early Forsythia. As to rarity, to quote Dirr's Manual of Woody Landscape Plants: "'Vermont Sun' is an almost unknown entity in the United States.
