DISANTHUS cercidifolius

Description: A wonderful and very rare shrub in the witchhazel family with rounded 3 to 4 inch leaves which resemble redbud (cercis) leaves, hence the species name. Leaves are blue-green in summer and change to gorgeous red and purple in fall. Flowers are small and dark purple, blooming in the axils of the leaves in October. Prefers deep moist, organic soil in part shade. Grows 6-10 feet.
