CUNNINGHAMIA lanceolata 'Glauca'
|
Description: This cultivar has striking long steely blue needles and the color rivals or surpasses the best blue spruce (Picea pungens) cultivars. It is also considered much hardier than the species. It is a very handsome conical tree with horizontal branches that are somewhat pendulous on the tips. This species grows large (80 feet high) in its native haunts of southern, central and western China and is used extensively in the timber industry there. C. lanceolata was introduced into Great Britain in 1804 by William Kerr and again by Fortune in 1844.
