Rhododendron (elepidote - Large Leaved)
"Big Leaf" rhododendrons. These are what most people first think of when they hear the word rhododendron. “Elepidote” literally means “without scales,” referring to a characteristic of the familiar large leaf rhododendrons. Foliage of this class of rhododendrons, although generally larger in size, can vary from about an inch long as in the species R. proteoides to as much as three feet long in the species R. sinogrande. Some have incredible fuzzy indumentum on the new growth and under the leaves, as on R. yakushimanum. The flowers can be almost any color. This group includes a very large number of hybrids. RHODODENDRON 'Ken Janeck'
(C8) A good strong fuschine pink in bud, opening to a soft shade of pink and fading over time to white. Indumentum is heavy under the matte, dark green leaves. A compact grower. more info

RHODODENDRON 'Kern's Violetta'
(C8) The flower is a large light lavender with a strong deep purple blotch. As it tends to be an open grower when young, pinch the new growth, and you will be rewarded by a bushier, vase-shaped plant. more info

RHODODENDRON 'Kimberly'
(C8) A compact, semi-dwarf grower. Abundant pastel pink flowers which are bell shaped and lightly fragrant, cover the medium green oval foliage. As added interest in the winter, the buds are a deep purple red. more info

(C) 'Kodiak' has silvery white ball-shaped trusses on a compact growing plant. Leaves are dark green with light tan indumentum. more info

RHODODENDRON 'Kristi Lynn'
Yellow buds open to pale yellow flowers which are unmarked by other colors. Each truss contains 12 to 15 flowers. Foliage is a glossy moderate olive green and the plant has a dense habit. more info

(C8) This appealing dwarf has outstanding oval black-green, glossy leaves and a perfect upside-down bowl-shaped plant habit. Flowers are light pink with reddish speckles. more info

(C8) Purple buds in trusses of 17 open to very pale purple 3 inch flowers heavily edged with a blend of strong and light purple; filaments and style are light purple. Leaves are dark green on a tall rounded plant. more info
