Rhododendron (elepidote - Large Leaved)
"Big Leaf" rhododendrons. These are what most people first think of when they hear the word rhododendron. “Elepidote” literally means “without scales,” referring to a characteristic of the familiar large leaf rhododendrons. Foliage of this class of rhododendrons, although generally larger in size, can vary from about an inch long as in the species R. proteoides to as much as three feet long in the species R. sinogrande. Some have incredible fuzzy indumentum on the new growth and under the leaves, as on R. yakushimanum. The flowers can be almost any color. This group includes a very large number of hybrids. (C) A low growing plant with glossy bullate leaves. The new growth is covered with a tan tomentum and the underside of the mature leaves retain a light orange indumentum. The flowers are pink to white and frilled with yellow spotting. more info

A putative yak hybrid that has light yellow flowers on a plant whose habit is upright and vase shaped. The flowers are dark pink in bud that open to canary yellow with burgundy spotting in a domed truss. more info

(C) This cross has nice dark green relatively narrow leaves and good vigorous growth. It has light yellow flowers opening from orangey-pink buds in loose trusses. more info

Light yellow flowers of good substance with a dainty purple flare that are held upright, much like the flowers of 'Yellow Saucer.' Foliage is small and semi rounded, of medium green color. more info

(C8) he flowers are lax trusses of deep red bells that are very unusual for an eastern hybrid. A precocious budder. A vase-shaped plant in habit, it is clothed in dark matte green leaves. more info
