Rhododendron (elepidote - Large Leaved)
"Big Leaf" rhododendrons. These are what most people first think of when they hear the word rhododendron. “Elepidote” literally means “without scales,” referring to a characteristic of the familiar large leaf rhododendrons. Foliage of this class of rhododendrons, although generally larger in size, can vary from about an inch long as in the species R. proteoides to as much as three feet long in the species R. sinogrande. Some have incredible fuzzy indumentum on the new growth and under the leaves, as on R. yakushimanum. The flowers can be almost any color. This group includes a very large number of hybrids. (C8) It extra large silvery pink flowers of heavy substance and yellow green spotting in the throat. The fragrant trusses are displayed on a densely clothed plant with large leaves. more info

RHODODENDRON 'Trinity'
Starting from pink buds, large white flowers open with faint dorsal spotting of light green. Dark green medium size foliage on a well-rounded plant. more info

RHODODENDRON 'Tripoli'
We can only say "gorgeous" when trying to describe 'Tripoli'! One of the darkest-colored Dexters, dark reddish pink (or pinkish-red) with a freckled dark blotch. Bushy plant covered with narrow dark green leaves. more info

Large rose pink flowers with a dark flare on the upper lobes. more info

RHODODENDRON 'Tyler Morris'
Not connected with either the Tyler or the Morris Arboreta(of the Philadelphia area), this John Thornton introduction is instead an R. hyperythrum hybrid bred for heat tolerance in Louisiana. Light pink flowers with a red dorsal flare. more info

RHODODENDRON 'Very Berry'
The flowers are rosy red, heavily substanced, and exceptionally large. Large foliage is dark green, and fully clothes a sturdy plant structure. more info

RHODODENDRON 'Victoria's Consort'
Pastel toned gray-lavender buds in full trusses open to yellowish white, almost tan flowers with light greenish yellow dorsal spots. Leaves are deep olive-green on an upright plant. more info

RHODODENDRON 'Visiting Angels'
In 2006 when Hank's best friend Warren Berg passed away, Hank was inspired to use the name of Warren's hospice care service, "Visiting Angels" for this plant in memory of Warren. A photo of Hank and the plant grace the cover of our 2010 catalog. more info

RHODODENDRON 'Voluptuous'
(C) Scented and sensuous! Large fragrant flowers have purplish pink edges and star-shaped centers with a cardinal red throat and dorsal spotting of deep crimson. Large glossy oblong leaves. more info

RHODODENDRON 'Vulcan's Flame'
(C8) The plant has fiery orange red flowers held in an almost ball shaped truss. Leaves are matte green, slender and pointed. more info

(C8) The ball-shaped trusses of 16 frilled, fragrant flowers are rose-pink with yellow–green rays in the throat. The plant grows as wide as tall with large glossy medium green leaves. more info

RHODODENDRON 'Wine Fuchsia'
The deep plum-purple flowers of this new introduction bloom in late midseason. The leaves are olive green. more info

RHODODENDRON 'Wyandanch Pink'
Tall globes of bright rose pink with a darker pink throat on an outstanding shrub. Leaves are very large with impressed veins. more info

RHODODENDRON 'Wynterset White'
Named by North American Rhododendron Registrar of Plant Names Jay Murray and husband Bob, and placed in micropropagation by Hank Schannen and the Murrays. This is a great early (first week of May), hardy white. more info
