Rhododendron (elepidote - Large Leaved)
"Big Leaf" rhododendrons. These are what most people first think of when they hear the word rhododendron. “Elepidote” literally means “without scales,” referring to a characteristic of the familiar large leaf rhododendrons. Foliage of this class of rhododendrons, although generally larger in size, can vary from about an inch long as in the species R. proteoides to as much as three feet long in the species R. sinogrande. Some have incredible fuzzy indumentum on the new growth and under the leaves, as on R. yakushimanum. The flowers can be almost any color. This group includes a very large number of hybrids. Pastel toned gray-lavender buds in full trusses open to yellowish white, almost tan flowers with light greenish yellow dorsal spots. Leaves are deep olive-green on an upright plant. more info

RHODODENDRON 'Wyandanch Pink'
(C8) Tall globes of bright rose pink with a darker pink throat on an outstanding shrub. Leaves are very large with impressed veins. more info

RHODODENDRON 'Wynterset White'
Named by North American Rhododendron Registrar of Plant Names Jay Murray and husband Bob, and placed in micropropagation by Hank Schannen and the Murrays. This is a great early (first week of May), hardy white. more info

RHODODENDRON 'Yaku Angel'
(C8) Buds light purplish pink opening to white flowers. Trusses each hold 13 to 17 flowers. Dwarf plant, spreading twice as wide as tall. more info

This has good yak-like leaves and habit including a layer of thin indumentum under the leaves. The flowers are white with rosy pink edges; a picotee effect as the name implies. more info

RHODODENDRON 'Yaku Prince'
(C8) 'Yaku Prince' has frilled flowers that open from red buds to a chiffon rose pink, then fade to a lighter pink. The plant is compact, low and spreading with matte green leaves and orange-tan indumentum. more info

(C) A low growing plant with glossy bullate leaves. The new growth is covered with a tan tomentum and the underside of the mature leaves retain a light orange indumentum. The flowers are pink to white and frilled with yellow spotting. more info
