Magnolia
If rhododendrons are the "King of Shrubs", then magnolias are surely the "Queen of Trees! From the earliest blooms of Spring to the fragrant flowers of Summer, magnolias offer a wide selection of color and form. The past several decades have produced an explosion of new magnolia cultivars, beginning with the ground-breaking breeding work done at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Augie Kehr, David Leach, Phil Savage and Dennis Ledvina. The diversity of colors include white (mostly found in M. kobus, loebneri, denudata, virginiana and grandiflora. yellow (accuminata and its hybrids), pink (soulangeana). These are just a sampling of colors, species and breeders We like to think that we offer the largest selection of magnolias in the US. Most of our offerings are in 2 gallon pots and are budded(a type of grafting) onto cold-hardy and drought-tolerant M. kobus understock. The use of this understock produces healthy, fast growing trees with nice straight single trunks. A few of our offerings are grown on their own roots from cuttings, or from seed in the case of wild species. These are noted in the descriptions. Some of these varieties are extremely new and still quite rare, so we may only have a couple to offer, hence the higher prices.

MAGNOLIA 'Aashild Kalleberg'
Leaves 30-40 cm long, 20 cm across. Many flowers pure white, highly scented, with 11-12 tepals, about 8 inches. Stamens are very dark red. more info

MAGNOLIA 'Anilou'
Flowers for more than a month, from mid April to end of May. A vigorous erect growing tree with deep yellow flowers. See: http://www.arboretumwespelaar.be/ more info

MAGNOLIA 'Apricot Brandy'
(FC) Very floriferous magnolia, with flowers that combine pink and yellow to form an overall peach color. more info

MAGNOLIA 'Banana Split'
(C8) This cultivar's green pointed, elongated buds look like bananas, large outer tepals are yellow-cream with a green base and five to seven purple stripes. The tree is vigorous and upright. more info

MAGNOLIA 'Big Dude'
Immense pink and white flowers on this rock hardy variety can reach 14 inches across. more info

MAGNOLIA 'Blushing Belle'
Flowers of this hybrid are similar to 'Caerhays Belle', but much hardier and with narrower tepals. Deep pink exterior and lighter pink interior tepals show no traces of yellow. more info

MAGNOLIA 'Butterbowl'
Good habit. Small but fleshy flowers, orange-yellow, broad tepals. Flowers keep their structure for a long period of time. Attractive plant. more info

MAGNOLIA 'Butterflies'
Neatly shaped tree with deep yellow, truly precocious flowers, once the tree begins blooming. Ten to fourteen tepals; stamens red. more info

MAGNOLIA 'Caerhays Belle'
(C8) It's voluptuous blossoms, not merely pink, are a sensual, languorous pink, on a graceful small tree approximately 20 feet high. It likes conditions which are not too hot and not too cold. more info

MAGNOLIA 'Coral Lake'
Flowers are blend of pinks shading into vertical yellow stripes. interiors of flowers are lighter shades of these colors than the exterior. Typical blossoms have 11 tepals in two whorls and are seven inches in diameter when fully open. more info

MAGNOLIA 'Coral Reef'
This is one of the earliest M. acuminata hybrids to bloom in the spring. The flowers are beautiful shades of salmon, pink and yellow. Very hardy with moderate growth rate. more info

MAGNOLIA 'Curly Head'
A tall, upright tree, with dense habit. Leaf edges are revolute. Flowers are pink and yellow on white. Formerly named 'Editor Hopkins'. more info

MAGNOLIA 'Daybreak'
Extremely fragrant flowers of clear rose pink bloom just as the leaves are emerging. Upright, narrow habit, ultimately growing to 25'-30' in height. more info

MAGNOLIA 'Elisa Odenwald'
A Gresham hybrid with creamy white flowers, pure white inside, with a touch of pink purple at the base on the outside of the three inner tepals. The tree has an upright, flaring growth habit. more info

MAGNOLIA 'Elizabeth Variegated'
A sport of the popular variety 'Elizabeth' with splashy yellow to cream varigated leaves! We may be the first place to offer this. Variegation may not be completely stable, you remove any non variegated shoots if they appear. more info
