Rhododendron (elepidote - Large Leaved)
"Big Leaf" rhododendrons. These are what most people first think of when they hear the word rhododendron. “Elepidote” literally means “without scales,” referring to a characteristic of the familiar large leaf rhododendrons. Foliage of this class of rhododendrons, although generally larger in size, can vary from about an inch long as in the species R. proteoides to as much as three feet long in the species R. sinogrande. Some have incredible fuzzy indumentum on the new growth and under the leaves, as on R. yakushimanum. The flowers can be almost any color. This group includes a very large number of hybrids. RHODODENDRON 'Alena'
(C8) This has some of the finest dark green glossy foliage to be found, as well as a wide mounded and dense growth habit. Pure white flowers emerge from light pink buds. Needs good light intensity to bloom well. more info

RHODODENDRON 'Amber Mist' aka 'Ada Lohr'
The flowers are similar to 'Janet Blair', but larger and deeper in color, with a very large yellow flare which ages to bronze. Leaves are very dark olive green, matte finished, each with a slight twist or "wave" to it. Very cold hardy. more info

RHODODENDRON 'Anah Kruschke'
(C8) A mid to late season bloomer. A hardy, sun tolerant rhododendron. It has a compact growth habit with shiny dark green leaves. more info

RHODODENDRON 'Anita Gehnrich'
(C8) Anita has slightly smaller foliage than "Solidarity", although both foliages are heavy textured and of similar color. Anita's flowers are a tad smaller and retain more color when fully open, and she has a lower, more spreading growth habit. more info

RHODODENDRON 'Anka Heinje'
Red buds open to rosy pink flowers held in compact trusses of 16 to 20 flowers. Leaves are dark green with beige indumentum, as you might suspect from the R. yakusimanum parent. more info

RHODODENDRON 'Anna H. Hall'
This Leach plant is low and mounding, the compact white trusses punctuate the dark green foliage with cottony puffs. Buds young and blooms reliably in mid May. more info

A super cold-hardy Finnish variety with white flowers opening from pink buds. New growth is covered with white tomentum. It has beautiful green leaves, and stocky compact growth habit. more info
